Hitting Your Goals: Is it possible to get what you want out of life?
Clint Maun, CSP
People ask us if it is really possible to get what you want out of life. These
people seem to doubt how positive communication is connected to success.
They want a reason to believe they can't hit their goals because of outside influences
like the environment, luck, fat, or other people.
Samuel Butler once said, "There are two great rules of life...one is general
and the other particular. The first is that everyone can, in the end, get
what they want if they try. That is the general rule. The particular rule
is that every individual, more or less, is an exception to the general rule."
Two pieces of information come from this quote. The first is that every human being is unique,
therefore, each individual must chart their own course for success. Your goals must be
individualized! The second piece of information is that the general rule for people only
comes true if they try.
In our research, we've found approximately 20% of us have goals we are
working on. The rest of us are simply day-dreaming. We've also found
that if you have goals and communicate them, you are a rarity. Therefore,
most people will help you hit your goals since they don't have any of their
own. Successful people do get what they want out of life because
they are constantly setting, communicating, and striving toward their goals!
Four Questions For Self-Evaluation: Are you able to take a self-evaluation of the important parts of your life. Successful people are able to complete very simple and immediate self-evaluation about their life.
